Kolkata to get it's first self driving metro trains by 2018 – The Tech Graph

The dream Self-driving metro train’s may be soon be a reality for Kolkata’s metro travelers by 2018.

According to Yatish Kumar, Director of Research and Standard Organisations for Indian Railways has said that “There is a goal that all the new metro rakes in the Kolkata from March 2018 may be grade of automation 3 (GoA 3) will be self-driving rakes.

“The grade of automation (GoA 3) refers to the procedure of Self-driving metro trains, where the starting and stopping of train are automated , but a train helper operates only on the train doors.”

The new rakes might be shipped from China will be only for existing metro tracks, along with new East West and Dum Dum-Garia metro units.
